Tool
Styler finder
Three questions about your hair. The finder suggests the kind of tool that usually fits, the attachments that matter, and the reasons behind each pick.
Short answer
Start from the look you want: a smooth blowout points to a hot air brush, curls to a multi-styler with air curl barrels, defined natural curls to a dryer with a diffuser, and the fastest drying to a high-airflow dryer with a concentrator. Then adjust for length (barrels need room to wrap) and hair type.

Usually fits best
Blow dryer brush (an oval or round hot air brush)
or a hair dryer with a concentrator and a round brush
Attachments
- Concentrator: directed airflow for smoothing (look for this)
- Diffuser: spreads airflow for curls
- Wide-tooth comb: stretching curly and coily hair
- Round or oval brush: blowout and volume (look for this)
- Curl barrels: curls and waves
Why
- A hot air brush dries and smooths in one pass, so you do not have to hold a dryer and a brush at once.

- Usually best for
- Curls and waves plus a blowout on one handle
| Tool | What it does | Usually best for |
|---|---|---|
| Hair dryer | Moves the most air; attachments shape the airflow | Fast drying, diffusing curls, blowouts with a round brush |
| Hot air brush | A brush head with its own heater and fan | A smooth or full blowout in one pass |
| Multi-styler | One motor with swappable barrels, brushes and a dryer head | Curls and waves plus a blowout on one handle |
Curl barrels need enough hair to wrap at least one to two turns, which is why the finder suggests a small hot air brush for hair above the chin. Barrel and brush size matter as much as the tool type: see the size chart below.
- 1 inShort hair, tight curls at the ends
- 1.2 in / 30 mmShort to medium hair, defined curls
- 1.5 inMedium hair, smooth ends with some bend
- 1.6 in / 40 mmMedium to long hair, loose waves
- 2 in ovalLong hair, smooth blowout with volume
What each attachment does
Concentrator
Narrow jet for smoothing with a brush
Diffuser
Wide, soft spread for curls
Wide-tooth comb
Air flows through the teeth to stretch curly and coily hair
Smoothing nozzle
Wide, flat, gentler airflow for finishing
The suggestions are typical starting points, not rules. Heat settings for each hair type are in the heat setting guide, and the tool types are compared in choosing a tool.
