Dyson now sells four distinct Airwrap families, and the differences are in the details: app presets, curl sequences, motors and what comes in the box. This page is for buyers who have decided on an Airwrap and need to pick the right one. We compare the Airwrap i.d., the Airwrap Complete Long, the Airwrap Origin and the Airwrap Coanda 2x using only what their Amazon listings state. For the full family tree, also see Dyson Airwrap models explained.

The four Airwraps at a glance

Prices are Amazon listing prices at the time of writing. All four use the Coanda effect, where airflow attracts and wraps hair around a barrel or brush. Dyson's barrels come in 30 mm and 40 mm sizes across the range; the Origin's single barrel is the 1.2 in (30 mm) size.

What the i.d. app and curl presets do

The Airwrap i.d. listing describes Bluetooth that connects the styler to the MyDyson app. You answer six questions about your hair type and length, and the app builds a styling profile. Once paired, the styler stores your wrap, style and cold shot settings, so a curl runs the same sequence each time with one touch. The point is consistency: you do not have to judge how long to hold each barrel or when to switch to cold.

The i.d. comes in two versions. One is engineered for straight and wavy hair, with dry, curl, wave, shape and smooth functions. The Curly+Coily version is listed for curly and coily hair and adds stretch and diffuse functions. Both are listed at $649.00. If you already know your timings and like manual control, the app is a convenience rather than a must.

Airwrap Complete Long and Origin: manual control

The Complete Long listing describes the Dyson digital motor V9 with a 13-blade impeller up to 110,000 rpm and 3.2 kPa, intelligent heat control that measures airflow temperature over 40 times a second, negative ions, three airflow speeds and three heat settings. You choose the settings and time each curl yourself. It is aimed at long hair that is straight to wavy, and Dyson also sells a Complete Long Diffuse kit for curly and coily hair.

The Origin uses the same V9 motor figures but a smaller kit: three styling attachments for a voluminous blow dry. Its one barrel curls both clockwise and counterclockwise, the round brush adds volume, and the flyaway attachment smooths. A Coanda smoothing dryer takes hair from wet to damp in pre-style mode and finishes in smoothing mode. It is the best value if one barrel size suits your hair.

Airwrap Coanda 2x: the most powerful

The Coanda 2x listing calls it Dyson's most powerful Airwrap: 30% more powerful and 2x the air pressure from a Gen2 motor, with full hair dryer performance. That matters if you want to dry from wet with the styler rather than with a separate dryer. Its Air straightener 2x attachment uses aerothermal plates to straighten from wet to dry in as little as one pass, which no other Airwrap here lists.

It also has an i.d. curl sequence that senses movement to wrap hair automatically and adapts heat, airflow and timings to your hair type. In practice it combines the i.d. idea of preset curls with a stronger motor and a straightening attachment, at the highest price of the four.

Which Airwrap to buy

Use your routine to decide. If you curl most days and want the same result every time without learning timings, the i.d. or Coanda 2x presets help. If you want to skip a separate dryer and straightener, the Coanda 2x covers both. If you are happy with manual settings, the Complete Long or Origin cost less.

  • Lowest price, one barrel size, blowouts and curls: Airwrap Origin.
  • Long straight to wavy hair, manual control, full kit: Airwrap Complete Long.
  • One-touch repeatable curls via the app: Airwrap i.d. (choose Curly+Coily for textured hair).
  • Fastest drying plus a straightening attachment: Airwrap Coanda 2x.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need the app to use the Airwrap i.d.? The listing describes the app as the way to build your styling profile and stored settings. Check Dyson's site for how the styler works before pairing.

Is the Coanda 2x worth the extra over the i.d.? It is if you want full dryer performance and the Air straightener 2x. If you mainly curl dry or damp hair, the i.d. covers the preset curls.

What is the difference between the Airwrap Origin and the i.d.? The Origin is a simpler manual kit with one barrel. The i.d. adds Bluetooth, app profiles and stored curl settings.

Which Airwrap is best for curly hair? Look at the Airwrap i.d. Curly+Coily or the Complete Long Diffuse kit. See how to use the Dyson Airwrap for technique.
