Dyson Airwrap models explained: HS01 to HS08 and i.d.

That makes it hard to know which attachments fit, which instructions apply, or whether a used or refurbished unit is the newer version. The original Airwrap (HS01)

The first Airwrap launched in 2018. It introduced Coanda styling, where airflow pulls hair around the barrel. The original kits had separate barrels for clockwise and counterclockwise curls, in 30 mm and 40 mm sizes, plus a pre-styling dryer, firm and soft smoothing brushes and a round volumizing brush. The filter cage twists off the bottom of the handle.

Original barrels are not designed for the 2022 and later handles, and vice versa. If you own an HS01, buy attachments that list it as compatible.

The 2022 redesign (HS05)

In 2022 Dyson re-engineered the Airwrap. The biggest change was the barrel: one barrel can curl in either direction, with a switch to change the airflow direction, so kits need fewer barrels. The pre-styling dryer was replaced with the Coanda smoothing dryer, which Dyson describes as having a pre-style mode for taking hair from wet to damp and a smoothing mode for finishing. Complete Long editions added longer barrels for long hair.

Airwrap Origin, i.d. and Co-anda2x

The Airwrap Origin is a simplified kit. Its listing describes three styling attachments: a 1.2 inch barrel that curls in both directions, a round brush and a flyaway attachment, with the Dyson digital motor V9.

The Airwrap i.d. adds Bluetooth and the MyDyson app. Per Dyson, you answer six questions about your hair type and length, and the machine stores wrap, style and cold shot settings. It is sold as a Straight+Wavy edition and a Curly+Coily edition with stretch and diffuse modes.

The Airwrap Co-anda2x, listed as the 2026 model, is described by Dyson as its most powerful Airwrap, with 2x the air pressure from a Gen2 motor, an Air straightener 2x attachment that straightens from wet to dry, and an i.d. curl sequence that senses movement. How to find your model number

    Unplug the Airwrap and let it cool.

    Look for the rating label on the handle. It lists the model (for example HS01 or HS05), voltage and serial number. On some versions it sits near the base or behind the filter cage.

    Note the serial number. It is the most reliable way to identify your machine.

    Enter the serial number on Dyson's support site or give it to Dyson support to confirm your exact model and edition.

Note.Not every number between HS01 and HS08 was sold in the US. Some numbers belong to regional or edition variants, so rely on the label and Dyson's support site rather than a guess from the color or box.
