Dyson Airwrap Co-anda2x: Gen2 motor and Air straightener 2x

This page is for anyone torn between Dyson's two styling tools. The Airwrap is a multi-styler that dries and styles through swappable barrels and brushes. The Airstrait is a straightener that Dyson designed to dry and straighten at the same time using airflow. They solve different problems, so the right pick depends on the finish you want most days. We compare the Airwrap Complete Long and the Airwrap Co-anda2x from their Amazon listings with the Airstrait as Dyson describes it, explain how each one works, and give a clear verdict.

Curls and volume versus wet-to-straight

The Airwrap uses the Coanda effect: airflow from slots in the barrel pulls hair around the barrel so it wraps without clamping. The same body takes a curl barrel, round or smoothing brushes and a dryer attachment, so you can dry, curl, wave and smooth. It is built for shape and movement.

The Airstrait is a straightener in form, with two arms you close over a section of hair. Dyson says it blows air down through the arms to dry and straighten hair from wet, without hot plates. It is built for a sleek, straight finish in one step, not for curls.

Spec table: Airwrap models and the Airstrait

The two Airwrap columns use Amazon listing facts. The Airstrait is not one of our listed products, so that column uses what Dyson publishes and marks anything we could not confirm.

Who should buy the Airwrap

Pick the Airwrap if you like to change your look. Curls one day, a bouncy blowout the next, a smooth finish on the weekend. The Complete Long listing names three heat settings and three airflow speeds, intelligent heat control, and negative ions to reduce static.

The Co-anda2x is the 2026 model. Dyson says it is its most powerful Airwrap, with 2x the air pressure from the Gen2 motor, stronger Coanda airflow for tighter wrapping, and an i.d. curl sequence that senses movement and adapts heat, airflow and timing. It also adds the Air straightener 2x attachment, which Dyson says straightens from wet to dry in as little as one pass. That makes it the one Airwrap that tries to cover Airstrait territory.

Curls from the Airwrap need practice and enough hair length to wrap around a barrel. See how to use the Dyson Airwrap and Dyson Airwrap on curly hair.

Who should buy the Airstrait

Pick the Airstrait if straight is your everyday style and you currently blow dry and then flat iron. Dyson's pitch is that it replaces both steps from wet hair, so you skip a separate dryer.

Because we could not confirm the Airstrait's current price, heat settings and weight from a listing we use, check Dyson's own product page before buying. Compare it with traditional options in hot air brush vs straightener.

  • Best for: straight or wavy hair worn sleek most days.
  • Not for: curls, waves or root volume.

Hair type, length and routine

Short hair. Airwrap barrels need enough length to wrap at least one or two turns. A straightener-style tool like the Airstrait handles short hair more easily.

Long, thick hair. Both take longer on long, thick hair. The Airwrap Complete Long includes longer barrels for this. Rough dry first if your hair holds a lot of water.

Curly and coily hair. If you want to keep curls, the Airwrap with a diffuser is the better fit; the Curly and Coily versions are built for that. If you want to stretch or straighten curls, the Airstrait or the Co-anda2x straightener attachment is aimed at that job.

Frequently asked questions

Can the Airwrap straighten hair like the Airstrait? The standard Airwrap smooths with brushes but does not straighten like a flat tool. The Airwrap Co-anda2x adds an Air straightener 2x attachment that Dyson says straightens from wet to dry.

Can the Airstrait make curls? Dyson designs it to dry and straighten. It is not marketed as a curling tool, so pick the Airwrap if curls matter to you.

Do I need a separate hair dryer with either tool? The Airwrap includes drying attachments, and the Co-anda2x listing claims full hair dryer performance. Dyson says the Airstrait dries as it straightens. Many people still keep a dryer for fast rough drying.

Which is easier to learn? The Airstrait works like a straightener, so most people find it simpler. The Airwrap barrels take a few sessions to master.
